The Ministry of Education investigates complaint about possible AI use in school contest

The Ministry of Education of Cyprus is reviewing a complaint claiming that during a literary contest some students may have used artificial intelligence.
The complaint was submitted by one of the participants in the contest organized by the Greek Embassy for third-grade secondary school students.
Deputy Director of Secondary Education Georgios Kutsidis confirmed that the complaint came from only one student. He noted that according to contest rules, the use of mobile phones was strictly prohibited and expressed doubt that under such conditions participants could have used AI at all.
According to him, students learned the essay topic on the day of the contest, so it was impossible to prepare texts or notes in advance.
He also stated that he has already contacted the principal of the school attended by the student who submitted the complaint. The school will be asked to provide additional information. If the reported facts are confirmed, the Ministry of Education will initiate an official investigation into the circumstances.
