Ayia Napa to Install Smart Parking System
Ayia Napa Municipality has begun installing smart parking sensors as part of the national Smart Cyprus project. Ayia Napa will thus become the first city in Cyprus to implement such a system.
The project is coordinated by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and aims to introduce digital solutions across the country.
The first test sensors were installed on March 9 by MK TTS at the Melissi parking lot. The sensors will record parking space occupancy in real-time and transmit information to drivers and municipal services.
Through a dedicated app, drivers will be able to:
- view available parking spaces in real-time,
- get navigation to the nearest free spot,
- pay for parking,
- pay any potential fines.
The city's Mayor, Christos Zannetou, noted that the system's implementation is part of the city's digital modernization strategy. In the future, the system is planned to be expanded to all municipal parking lots, alongside other elements of the Smart Cyprus project, such as smart lighting and intelligent waste management.
