Tourism in Cyprus: April decline slows down, but figures remain negative

The Statistical Service of Cyprus published data showing that the decline in tourist arrivals continued in April 2026, but the rate of decline slowed down compared to the previous month.
In April, the number of tourists decreased by 27.6% to 303,031 people, compared to 418,730 in April 2025. For comparison, the decline in March reached 30.7%, indicating a slight easing of the negative trend.
The main source of tourist traffic in April was the United Kingdom — 39.2% of all arrivals (118,742 tourists). This was followed by Poland (8.4%), Germany (8.0%), Israel (5.3%), and Greece (4.7%). Meanwhile, the largest drop was recorded among tourists from Israel — minus 74.8% year-on-year. Arrivals from the United Kingdom (-21.8%), Germany (-18.4%), Greece (-12.8%), and Poland (-12.5%) also decreased.
The majority of arrivals (73%) stated that the purpose of their trip was holidays. Another 17.7% arrived to visit relatives and friends, while 9.2% came for business reasons. A year earlier, the proportion of tourists coming for holidays was higher, standing at 80.3%.
Overall, for the period from January to April 2026, Cyprus welcomed 710,370 tourists, which is 17.9% less than in the same period of 2025 (865,326).
At the same time, stability is observed in outbound tourism: residents of Cyprus made 164,357 trips abroad in April 2026, which is only 0.3% less than a year earlier. The main destinations were Greece, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Romania.
