Strong Winds in Cyprus Damage Power Lines
Strong wind gusts that hit the island on Saturday caused several incidents and required the intervention of the fire service.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, in the Pomos area, powerful winds tore off a large metal pergola made of awning and metal sheets.
The structure was carried by the wind onto a power line and a Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) pole, resulting in damage to the support. Eventually, the pergola got stuck in trees.
Firefighters, an EAC emergency crew, and the local mayor arrived at the scene.
The structure was successfully moved to a safe location using an excavator, after which the energy company specialists began restoring the damaged line.
