Record-Breaking Visitors Flock to Cyprus’s Christmas Villages

This holiday season, Cyprus’s Christmas villages welcomed an unprecedented number of visitors, with attendance in some areas soaring to more than six times the usual figures. Notably, many of the guests were international tourists.

In an interview with Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC), Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis shared that the surge in visitors wasn’t limited to locals—there was also a significant increase in foreign tourists exploring the festive villages.

One standout example was the Christmas village in Kalopanayiotis, where attendance skyrocketed to six times its usual levels. Remarkably, 40% of the visitors there were from abroad.

Kalopanayiotis community leader Lambros Lambrou revealed that the influx of people in December was so overwhelming that police had to step in multiple times to manage traffic congestion.

This season, Christmas villages were set up in Agros, Deryneia, Fikardou, Kalopanayiotis, Kiti, and Kyperounta, along with Laiki Geitonia in Nicosia’s Old Town. They opened their doors to the public in late November and have since become a major holiday attraction.
