Nicosia Town Hall and Eleftheria Square illuminated for Europe Day
Nicosia Town Hall and Eleftheria Square will be illuminated with special lighting for Europe Day, celebrated annually on May 9th. From this day, a month-long countdown will begin until the European elections scheduled from June 6th to 9th.
More than 60 cities across Europe will participate in the initiative. Historical landmarks will be illuminated at night to encourage people to vote in the upcoming elections.
According to a statement published by the European Parliament, prominent landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, and the Grand Place in Brussels will participate in the event.
Among other landmarks joining the initiative are the Samuel Beckett Bridge and the Parliament building in Dublin, the Town Hall in Vilnius, Fort St. Angelo in Valletta, the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, Sibelles Square in Madrid, and the Parliament of Romania in Bucharest.
Europe Day is celebrated annually to commemorate peace and unity in Europe. It marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which proposed a new form of political cooperation in Europe and laid the foundation for what would later become the European Union.
