Paphos Hospital Increases Pediatric Bed Capacity After Child's Death

Following the tragic death of a child, Paphos General Hospital has expanded its pediatric department by adding four more beds for young patients.

Local media reports that until recently, the hospital had only 9+1 beds, which were overcrowded due to seasonal infections. As of Tuesday, the hospital has increased the number of beds to 14, with corresponding adjustments made to the medical staff.

This is a standard procedure by the OKYpY healthcare system during virus outbreaks, enabling the hospital to treat as many patients as possible.

Earlier reports indicated that a six-year-old child, who had been transferred from Paphos Hospital to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, tragically passed away. City authorities have criticized the quality of medical services and called for urgent hospital modernization.

In a social media post, the mayor of Paphos, Fedonas Fedonos, stated that the child died because Paphos Hospital “could not handle the case and did not have available beds” for treatment.
