Following the death of a 40-year-old man from the RSV virus, Professor of Public Health Theodoros Litras reminded that there are now ways to protect against this virus.

In an interview with the state television channel, he noted that RSV is one of many respiratory viruses that has been underestimated until recently. According to him, it most often affects children under two years old and elderly people over 75 years old.

Litras emphasized that an RSV vaccine is currently available. It is recommended for adults aged 60 to 74 with chronic illnesses, all people over 75, and pregnant women.

Additionally, there are recommendations for administering monoclonal antibodies to infants, as in a small percentage of cases the virus can cause severe complications and lead to hospitalization.
