A police officer in Cyprus was disciplined for false claims about “saving a woman”

The disciplinary committee of the Cyprus police reviewed the case of an officer who last year claimed he had saved a woman from an attack. The investigation revealed that this incident was fabricated.

According to the internal investigation, in the summer of 2024 the police officer, while off duty, told colleagues and posted on social media that he had prevented an attack on a woman. He claimed that he intervened in a conflict and helped the victim avoid danger. However, the police review did not confirm any of these facts. No witnesses to the incident or the alleged victim were found.

The committee concluded that the officer deliberately misled the leadership and the public, damaging the reputation of the police. As a result of the proceedings, the officer was found guilty of violating service discipline and was demoted. He was transferred to administrative work without the right to patrol.

A police spokesperson noted that such actions are incompatible with the status of a law enforcement officer and undermine public trust. The leadership emphasized that such cases will be firmly addressed, and disciplinary measures are aimed at maintaining professional standards and transparency in police work.
