Green Party Calls for Accountability in Nicosia Dog Killing Case
The Green Party has stated that it is awaiting the results of the police investigation into the brutal killing of a dog in the Ayia Trimithias area of Nicosia. The incident of animal cruelty came to light last Tuesday through social media.
According to the police, a 64-year-old man was detained on suspicion of killing the dog and confessed to the crime during questioning. Additionally, three firearms were seized from the suspect.
On Friday, the Green Party questioned whether the detained man had been formally arrested or was still at large.
"Several studies have shown that when a person takes up a weapon and kills a defenseless animal, they could potentially do the same to a human. If this were an unintentional killing, would he still be free?" animal rights activists asked.
Activists have demanded that the man who confessed to killing the animal be held accountable.
