Pancyprian Association of Cancer Patients Welcomes Establishment of National Cancer Institute
The Pancyprian Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (Pasykaf) welcomed the Cabinet's approval of the National Cancer Institute Law 2026 in Cyprus. The association described it as a significant step in the coordination and management of oncological care on the island.
In a statement, Pasykaf noted that the establishment of the institute as an autonomous scientific body will allow for better organization, monitoring, and utilization of cancer services across the territory of Cyprus.
The association recalled that creating such an institute has been its priority for several years. A formal proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Committee in 2016, and the necessity was reflected in the National Cancer Strategy of 2019.
Executive Director of Pasykaf, Nicolas Philippou, stated that the approval of the bill is an "especially important development" for the nation and for people affected by cancer. According to him, the institutionalization of such a body can significantly improve service coordination, strengthen the national strategy, and ensure more comprehensive and high-quality care for patients.
The association called for the prompt implementation of the institute and reaffirmed its readiness to contribute its experience and knowledge to form a strong, modern, and reliable center for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and care in Cyprus.
