About 30 cats found dead at a cemetery in Limassol — police investigating
The Animal Protection Group of the Environmentalists’ Movement — Citizens’ Cooperation reported a possible mass death of cats at the Sfalanggiotissa cemetery in Limassol, Cyprus, on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
According to the group, around 30 dead animals were found on site. Many showed signs of violent death: foam in the mouth. Suspected poisoned baits were also found on the premises. People who care for the cats at their own expense were the first to discover the bodies and notify the organizations.
Four kittens were taken to a veterinarian in critical condition: two did not survive, two remain in the clinic. Limassol Animal Affairs Police have already been informed and are conducting an investigation.
The statement emphasizes that similar incidents have been recorded in the past. The animal protection group calls for increased monitoring and regular inspection of the site and urges anyone with information to report to the authorities.
Legal responsibility is reminded: under Article 4 of the Animal Protection and Welfare Law, it is prohibited to intentionally give or provide any poisonous or harmful substance to any animal, which carries a penalty.
