57-year-old man detained in Cyprus on suspicion of aiding illegal migrants
In Cyprus, police detained a 57-year-old man on suspicion of aiding the entry, movement, and stay of third-country nationals within the Republic. Operational control was carried out in the evening, around 20:00, on a dirt road in the Athienou and Kosi area, while traveling towards the Athienou – Larnaca road.
Officers from the Green Line Surveillance and Migration Flow Counteraction unit stopped a car and found two men, aged 17 and 18, who are third-country nationals. The driver was detained on the spot and taken along with the passengers to the Athienou police station for further checks.
Following the checks, it was determined that the 17 and 18-year-old individuals are in the Republic illegally; they were transferred to a reception and accommodation center in the Nicosia district. A judicial detention order was issued for the 57-year-old driver, based on which he was taken into custody.
The following morning, the suspect appeared before the Larnaca District Court, which issued a six-day detention order. The investigation into the aiding and abetting remains ongoing under the control of the Athienou police station.
