Deaths from influenza are rising in Cyprus: six people died over the weekend

Cyprus has recorded an increase in flu-related deaths compared to the same period last year. This was reported by Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Elizabeth Constantinou, according to the newspaper Alithia.
According to her, five people died from flu complications over the weekend, and on Monday another patient — a 54-year-old man receiving treatment in a private clinic — passed away.
Constantinou explained that in most cases the deceased were over 80 years old and had chronic underlying conditions.
She described the death of the 54-year-old patient as an exception to the general pattern.
Authorities urge vaccination
The Ministry of Health representative emphasized the importance of flu vaccination. According to her data:
Approximately 160,000 doses of the vaccine were ordered this season
- 145,000 vaccinations have already been administered
The Ministry continues to urge citizens, especially the elderly and those in risk groups, not to delay vaccination.
