Lung Cancer More Common Among Men in Cyprus

Lung cancer is the second most common cancer among men in Cyprus and the fifth most common among women.

On World Lung Cancer Awareness Day, which is observed on August 1, the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (Pasykaf) shared this information. Data from 2021 shows that there were 339 cases of lung cancer among men and 105 cases among women in Cyprus.

Pasykaf urges smokers to quit and to contact the Health Services hotline at 1431, as eight out of ten lung cancer cases are related to smoking.

Warning signs of lung cancer include persistent cough, shortness of breath, respiratory infections, coughing up blood, hoarseness, and facial swelling. Cyprus is one of 182 countries that have ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which aims to combat the global tobacco epidemic.
