"Rebetiko and Folk Melodies" concerts held in Cyprus featuring music school students
Two concerts titled "Rebetiko and Folk Melodies" were held in Nicosia and Limassol, featuring music school students from all over Cyprus.
The performances took place on March 6 at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre in Nicosia and on March 12 at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol. Students from music schools in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Famagusta performed on stage alongside their teachers and professional musicians.
According to the Ministry of Education of Cyprus, the event was organized by the Department of Music Education and aimed to bridge academic music education with live professional practice.
The participants jointly formed a modern rebetiko group, transforming the theater stages into spaces for musical communication, creativity, and expression.
The concerts were dedicated to two important branches of the Greek musical tradition — rebetiko, considered one of the most authentic forms of musical heritage, and folk song, which continues to inspire and unite listeners.
The event also served an educational and social purpose, with free admission for the public.
