Warning in Cyprus about the sale of low-quality auto parts and vehicles

The Cyprus Department of Road Transport (RTD) has issued a warning about unsafe cars, motorcycles, and spare parts present on the market, which have been included in recent alerts by the European Safety Gate rapid alert system for dangerous products.

Specifically, this concerns vehicles with defects that may affect driving safety. These include popular models from Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat, Toyota, Opel/Vauxhall and others, equipped with DV5R series diesel engines. The list also includes motorcycles such as the Yamaha XTZ690 (Ténéré 700 Rally), Kawasaki MEGURO S1 and W230, as well as the Polestar 3, Land Rover Defender, Mercedes-AMG ONE, Ford Mustang, Volkswagen Golf, and Renault Koleos II.

Particular concern has been raised over the sale of dangerous brake kits for motorcycles being sold through online platforms such as AliExpress. As an example, the RTD pointed to a brake kit for Piaggio motorcycles that does not meet safety standards.

The department urged manufacturers, importers, and retailers involved in the sale of these products to immediately inform the relevant authorities and take the necessary measures to recall the products. If they refuse to cooperate, consumers may file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Service through the portal consumer.gov.cy.

Citizens who already own the mentioned vehicles or parts are advised to contact official dealers, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, or, if necessary, stop using the product.
