Building permits in Cyprus rose by 19.5% in 2025 — project area increased by 41%
In Cyprus, according to the Statistical Service, 8,159 building permits were issued during the period of January–December 2025, representing a 19.5% increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The total value of the permits issued rose by 37.8%, while the total area of the projects increased by 41.0%. The number of planned residential units showed a growth of 42.7%, indicating an intensification of housing construction on the island.
In December 2025, 819 permits were issued. Their total value amounted to €415.4 million, with a total area of 328.8 thousand square meters. These permits provide for the construction of 1,770 residential units.
It is noted that as of July 1, 2024, the authority to issue permits was transferred from municipalities and district administrations to the new District Self-Government Organizations (EOA). Processing procedures are now carried out through the new integrated information portal "Ippodamos" (Ιππόδαμος), which applicants should take into account when submitting documents.
