Road Authorities in Cyprus Strengthen Control Over Electric Bicycle Use
The police remind that using vehicles on public roads that do not comply with legal requirements significantly increases the risk of serious and fatal traffic accidents.
According to current law, mechanical, electric, and other vehicles that do not meet established technical requirements are prohibited from operating on public roads. This includes certain electric bicycles.
Electric bicycles permitted for use must have a maximum speed not exceeding 25 km/h and a power output of 0.25 kW (250 W). Such vehicles are not subject to mandatory registration. However, they are prohibited from riding on highways and expressways but are allowed on other roads if conditions are met.
As part of traffic accident prevention, the police conduct daily inspections. Vehicles found to be illegal for use are confiscated.
