Commander of the Cyprus National Guard discussed security issues at the DEFEA 2026 conference in Athens

The Commander of the Cyprus National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, took part in the international conference DEFEA CONFERENCE 2026, which was held in Athens under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of National Defence. The forum took place at the Metropolitan Expo exhibition center and was dedicated to defense, security, and the development of modern military technologies.

The event was attended by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias, European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius, and NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska.

During the conference, Theodorou held meetings with the leadership of the Greek Armed Forces. The parties discussed the current situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as the impact of regional crises on the security and stability of the region.

Furthermore, the head of the National Guard met with representatives of the defense industry from Greece, Cyprus, and other countries. The main focus was on modern defense technologies and the prospects for developing military-technical cooperation.

The following day, Theodorou visited the Supreme Joint War College in Greece, where he gave a presentation to students on the structure and tasks of the Cyprus National Guard. In his speech, he emphasized the need for constant adaptation of defense plans to the rapidly changing geopolitical situation in the region.

According to the head of the National Guard, modern security challenges require strategic thinking and the strengthening of international cooperation in the defense sphere.
