Greece remains the top destination: Cypriots continue to choose a holiday "like home"
Greece once again confirms its status as the most popular foreign destination for residents of Cyprus. According to data voiced at a tourism event in Nicosia, about 600,000 Cypriots visited the country in 2025, and this trend is expected to continue in the current season.
Representatives of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) emphasized that they are focusing not only on traditional resorts but also on promoting alternative types of tourism. This includes cultural, gastronomic, religious, and ecological routes, as well as the development of medical and business tourism.
The director of the GNTO office in Cyprus, Athena Spakouri, noted that Cyprus and Greece do not compete but complement each other. According to her, the countries can jointly attract tourists from distant markets, including the USA and China, forming a unified tourism space in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Greek Ambassador to Cyprus, Konstantinos Kollias, stressed that convenient accessibility remains a key factor in popularity. Frequent flights, as well as the maritime connection between Limassol and Piraeus, make trips fast and comfortable.
Industry experts note that for Cypriots, Greece is not just a holiday destination, but a "second home" where shared culture, language, and traditions combine. In turn, the development of cooperation between the countries opens up new opportunities for tourism and strengthens economic ties.
Despite geopolitical challenges in the region, industry representatives expect a successful tourist season and further growth in mutual traveler flows.
