Farmers block road in Nicosia over foot-and-mouth disease
A protest by livestock farmers took place in Nicosia, expressing dissatisfaction with the government's actions regarding the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
About 200 farmers arrived in vehicles at the Ministry of Agriculture building, where they submitted their demands.
Following this, the protesters blocked traffic at the traffic lights at the city entrance for 15 minutes.
Farmers are demanding an end to the mass culling of animals, claiming that preventive measures are not being followed in several districts.
They are also insisting on the approval of compensation for each animal and for lost profits.
Protest participants warned that if they do not receive a government response by this evening, they are prepared to take tougher measures, including blocking a major interchange.
