Joint Committee Starts Conservation Work at the Monastery of Apostle Andrew

Conservation and preservation work on the medieval chapel of Apostle Andreas (Saint Apostle Andrew) in Karpasia is commencing.

"The conservation work will be carried out in the medieval chapel located near the holy water spring. Additionally, some work will be done on the exterior part of the monastery," announced Sotiris Ktoris, the Greek Cypriot co-chair of the bicommunal committee for cultural heritage.

Furthermore, restoration work will begin at Panagia Kanakaria in Litragomi, Panagia Lysi, and Panagia Makrassika, as well as Ayios Prokopios in Sigrasi, Agia Fotini in Ayios Andronikos, St. John the Baptist in Argaki, St. George of the Latins in Famagusta, and on the Bastion of Diamante within the Venetian walls of Famagusta.

Repair work will also be conducted at the Tuzla Mosque in Larnaca and mosques in Avdimou, Alektora, Tochni, Kalavasos, and Alamino.

According to Sotiris Ktoris, the cooperation between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, who are part of the technical committee, "is excellent; it is the cornerstone of efforts made to preserve the monuments bequeathed to us by the history of this land."

Recall that it was previously reported that a project to reconstruct the road from Dipkarpaz to the Monastery of Apostle Andrew had gained momentum in Northern Cyprus. The construction, initially scheduled to start several years ago, was postponed due to difficulties in material supply. It is expected that the road leading to the chapel will be expanded to 10 meters.
