In Cyprus, the Department of Forests (Τμήμα Δασών) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (Υπουργείο Γεωργίας, Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Περιβάλλοντος) reports full control of two forest fires caused by lightning strikes on April 17, 2026.

The first fire broke out at 10:25 in the "Karvouna" (Καρβουνά) area and, thanks to the swift intervention of the Department of Forests, was brought under full control at 10:40 without further spreading. 13 personnel and 2 fire engines were involved in the operation. The fire was spotted by a passing citizen.

The second fire was recorded at 10:50 in the "Lachani" (Λαχάνη) area in the Evrychou (Ευρύχου) community. It was brought under full control at 11:00 and also did not spread. 5 personnel and 1 fire engine worked on-site. The fire was identified by a Department of Forests tractor driver performing forestry work.

It is reported that in both cases, the prompt response prevented evacuations and significant damage to the forest areas.
