The director of the Cypriot prison resigns
The director of the Central Prison, Ioannis Kapnoullas, has resigned in Cyprus. The Ministry of Justice reports that he resigned "for personal reasons".
In a conversation with AlphaNews, the former director noted that this decision was due to "physical and mental exhaustion" acquired from stressful work.
He had been serving as the prison director since January 2023. His predecessor, Anna Aristotelous, was appointed Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs.
Before his appointment to the prison, Ioannis Kapnoullas held the position of assistant director of the Famagusta district police. It is expected that the former prison chief will now return to the Famagusta police.
It is reported that the position of the new head of the penitentiary institution has been assigned to Chief Police Superintendent Haralambos Philippides. He will hold this position until June 2026.
