British and Israeli Tourists Lead Arrivals in Cyprus
Cyprus experienced a significant rise in tourist numbers in June 2024, with British and Israeli visitors topping the list.
According to data from the Statistical Service, tourist arrivals in June reached 482,261, marking a 5.5% increase from June 2023's figure of 456,985.
The top five source markets remained consistent from May: the United Kingdom, Israel, Poland, Germany, and Sweden. These countries collectively accounted for 63.32% of June's arrivals.
The United Kingdom contributed 35.6% (171,704) of the total arrivals in June.
Despite regional conflicts, Israel saw a substantial number of arrivals at 10.7% (51,814).
Poland continued to grow as a key market, with arrivals at 7.5% (36,202).
In Germany's case, experts noted that the recent bankruptcy of travel giant FTI had minimal impact on Cyprus bookings, with German arrivals at 4.5% (21,552).
Most German tourists who had booked through FTI found alternative arrangements and will still visit Cyprus.
The rise in tourist numbers in June supports the Deputy Minister of Tourism's prediction that overall tourist flow will remain stable compared to last year.
In the first half of 2024, Cyprus welcomed 1.65 million tourists. This not only exceeds the figures for the same period in 2023 (1.61 million) but also surpasses those of 2019, previously the most successful year for Cypriot tourism.
