Holy Fire to be solemnly welcomed at Larnaca airport
The aircraft carrying the Holy Fire will land at Larnaca International Airport "Glafcos Clerides," where a solemn welcoming ceremony is planned.
Due to increased security measures, the aircraft will be positioned at the old Larnaca airport premises. An official welcome has been prepared on-site with a red carpet, a guard of honor from the military police, and a performance by the Cyprus National Guard military band.
The government will be represented at the ceremony by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Costas Fitiris.
The Holy Fire will be received by Metropolitan Timotheos of Vostra, Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Cyprus, as well as Archimandrite Stylianos, representing the Metropolitan of Kition.
After a short prayer in the official delegations hall, the fire will be escorted by police to the Archbishopric of Cyprus in Nicosia, where it will be handed over to Archbishop Georgios.
The relic will then be taken to the Exarchate of the Holy Sepulchre in Nicosia, from where it will be distributed to the island's churches. A portion of the Holy Fire will also be sent by plane to Lebanon for the Christian communities of Lebanon and Syria.
