Residents demand barriers on Aşıklar Yolu in Famagusta after repeated accidents
The lack of safety measures on Aşıklar Yolu in Famagusta is drawing sharp criticism from drivers and local residents, Diyalog newspaper reported on April 8, 2026. In some areas, the road runs just meters from a precipice, and over the years, many cars have fallen into the ditch, resulting in injuries and accidents.
Surveyed drivers noted that narrow and poorly protected sections of the highway are particularly dangerous. According to motorists, the absence of barriers and fences increases the risk of new incidents. "Death is just a few meters away, but the authorities stubbornly refuse to take action. This is an invitation to another accident," survey participants stated.
Citizens are demanding the urgent installation of protective barriers, warning signs, and other safety measures in problematic areas. They emphasize that without intervention from the responsible services, more serious incidents are inevitable.
The material was prepared by Hüseyin Çiçek based on data from Diyalog newspaper. Drivers are advised to exercise increased caution on Aşıklar Yolu and avoid speeding until safety improvement works are carried out.
