Evkaf Café Opens in Varosha

A new café called Evkaf has opened in the once-closed town of Varosha (Maraş), with a focus on preserving the area’s cultural and historical heritage.

The café, located next to the Bilal Ağa Mosque, was established with support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Turkish Cypriot Foundations Administration (Evkaf).

The opening ceremony was attended by TİKA President Serkan Kayalar and Mustafa Tümer, Director General of the Turkish Cypriot Foundations Administration.

In his speech, Kayalar emphasized the symbolic and meaningful nature of the project:

“We are standing at Bilal Ağa Mosque, which our Evkaf foundation beautifully restored after 47 years,” he said.

The café is operated by volunteer philanthropists, and TİKA helped enhance the facility by providing a kitchen and necessary equipment.

Kayalar also stated that TİKA remains committed to supporting the cultural and historical heritage of Northern Cyprus.
