Drug suspect detained in Nicosia — court orders 3-day remand
In Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, on April 4, 2026, a court ordered the three-day arrest of a suspect in a drug trafficking case. According to police, the detention followed the discovery of a suspicious person by narcotics and anti-smuggling officers in Güzelyurt on April 2.
According to testimony from police officer Görkem Taşlı, the suspect, F.S.E., indicated that his residence is in Nicosia. A search was conducted under a court warrant on Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Street. During the search, approximately 2 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, two precision scales, a rolled 20-lira banknote with suspected drug traces, a white plate with suspected drug residues, and a red plastic grinder were seized. All items were taken as evidence.
Police reported that the seized samples will be sent for laboratory analysis, with plans to interview witnesses and check the suspect's mobile phone to establish supply channels. Judge Şevket Gazi granted the police's request for a three-day detention to continue the investigation.
