Man detained in Lefkosa in connection with £39,000 fraud case
In Lefkosa, Aytac Yilmaz has been detained on suspicion of fraud and illegal acquisition of funds. He appeared before the court, where police presented the details of the case.
According to the investigation, in February–March 2024 the suspect worked at a car dealership in the Hamitköy area. During this period, he allegedly reclaimed two vehicles that had already been sold and officially transferred, under the pretext of repairs. The cars were then resold to third parties, resulting in the suspect obtaining approximately £39,000.
After a complaint was filed, police launched an investigation and established that on April 16, 2024, the man left the country. Aytac Yilmaz was declared wanted and was detained on January 15, 2026, while attempting to enter the TRNC via Ercan Airport.
Police informed the court that the investigation is ongoing: statements have already been taken, and information about possible similar crimes in the Kyrenia area is also being examined. For this reason, law enforcement requested an extension of the detention period.
Judge Şevket Gazi granted the police request and ordered that the suspect remain in custody for eight days.
