By the end of May, residents of Northern Cyprus will be able to see a rare Blue Moon
On the night of May 31, residents of Northern Cyprus will be treated to a beautiful astronomical event known as the Blue Moon. This is a rare occurrence when two full moons happen within a single calendar month instead of one. The first full moon of May has already passed at the beginning of the month, and the second will close out the current month.
Despite its name, the Earth's satellite will not turn blue or light blue. The Moon will keep its usual color, but it will appear significantly larger, brighter and clearer than during ordinary full moons. Astronomers note that this phenomenon has no geographic restrictions — if the weather is clear, it will be clearly visible across all regions of the island.
This is the last chance to see a Blue Moon for the next several years. The next such alignment of lunar cycles will occur only at the very end of 2028.
