Evkaf Administration: Future in Cyprus possible only with mutual respect and dialogue
The Cyprus Evkaf Administration on April 13 issued an official statement in response to recent remarks by Archbishop Georgios, emphasizing that building a shared future in Cyprus is only possible through mutual respect and dialogue.
The statement noted that the island has historically been an environment of coexistence for different religions and cultures, and this multiculturalism persists thanks to the will for peaceful coexistence. The Administration recalled the Quranic principles — "there is no compulsion in religion" and "to you be your religion, and to me my religion" — as proof of Islamic traditions of tolerance and respect for freedom of worship.
The Evkaf Administration also stated that Turkish Cypriots and their institutions have always respected all religious beliefs, protected the right to worship, and contributed to the preservation of religious heritage. The department urged religious leaders to refrain from divisive and destructive language, which they believe could harm public peace and inter-communal relations.
Practical benefit for residents: The Administration confirms its continued support for an atmosphere of tolerance and the protection of freedom of religion, which is vital for the stability of social life and the preservation of religious monuments throughout the island.
