Parliament Speaker Ziya Öztürkler received the Alayköy Primary School folk dance group on April 15, which will represent the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) at the 48th International April 23 Children's Festival in Ankara from April 18 to 24.

During the reception, Öztürkler noted that the students' participation in such an event is a "very beautiful and honorable task" and expressed pride in the children, teachers, and parents. He announced that a symbolic session will take place in parliament next week, and various performances dedicated to the holiday will be held throughout the week.

Öztürkler recalled that April 23 is the National Sovereignty and Children's Day, gifted by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and emphasized the historical significance of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on April 23, 1920. He urged the youth to remember past hardships and noted the role of Mehmetçik, mujahideen, and freedom leaders, including founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş and Dr. Fazıl Küçük.

School Director Özden Ünbay stated that the school is preparing thoroughly for the performance, viewing participation as an opportunity to present cultural values and strengthen children's confidence and friendship. Following the official remarks, commemorative plaques were presented, and a group photo was taken.
