Tourists refuse to fly to Japan because of a “prophecy” described in a manga comic

A Japanese manga depicts a devastating tsunami expected to hit Japan in July, causing tourists to cancel trips to the country.
Ryo Tatsuki, the creator of a manga that accurately predicted the 2011 earthquake in Japan which damaged the Fukushima nuclear plant, has now illustrated a catastrophe in the full 2021 edition of her manga, forecasting a disaster for July 2025.
The manga describes a tsunami three times more powerful than the one in 2011, triggered by an underwater volcanic eruption between Japan and the Philippines.
In light of this, airlines have reported a drop in passenger numbers to Japan. In May, arrivals from Hong Kong decreased by 11%.
A representative from the tour operator EGL Tours noted that rumors surrounding the manga predicting a powerful earthquake could halve Japan-related travel business. Some travelers are postponing trips to Japan due to these fears.
Meanwhile, Ryo Tatsuki emphasized that she is "not a prophet." Nonetheless, airlines like Greater Bay Airlines are suspending flights due to low demand.
