Council of Ministers Postpones Strike at Teknecik Power Plant for 60 Days — Prime Minister

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated on September 2 that the Council of Ministers has postponed the planned indefinite strike by the EL‑SEN union at the Teknecik Power Plant for 60 days. According to the Prime Minister, the decision was made to protect the health, safety, and order of the population during hot weather conditions.

Üstel called the strike announced by EL‑SEN "irresponsible," noting that power outages could harm the sick, children, and the economy. He emphasized that the government prefers dialogue but will not allow actions that threaten public order: "State authority will not be undermined by political games behind closed doors," he said.

For residents of Northern Cyprus, this means a temporary reduction in the risk of major power outages; however, the situation remains tense: the union has already expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, and several publications discussed possible technical and organizational causes of the conflict with Kıb‑Tek.
