Heavy Rains Flood Stadium in Lefka, Football Match Postponed
Heavy rains hitting Northern Cyprus have led to flooding in Lefka. Due to intensive precipitation, the water flow in local stream beds increased significantly, and the parking lot of the Lefke 16 Ağustos Zafer Stadium ended up underwater.
Following the heavy downpour, the parking area was quickly inundated. It is reported that the existing storm drainage system could not cope with the volume of water, leading to the flooding.
Due to the weather conditions, the AKSA Süper Lig match between Lefke TSK and Mormenekşe GBSK, which was scheduled to start at 14:00, was postponed. Because the field was unplayable, the meeting was moved to Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
It is also reported that the heavy rainfall has raised water levels in reservoirs and increased the current in rivers throughout the region.
