The Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Union has announced a strike

The Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Union has announced a one-day warning strike on Monday at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital in Nicosia and Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia. The reason is the failure to meet their demands in the healthcare sector.

According to the statement, the strike will last from 07:00 to 14:00 and will cover all departments and polyclinics except intensive care units. The issue of refusing overtime work will be decided individually at each hospital where union members are employed.

The organization emphasized that their demands concern not only improved working conditions but also the quality of healthcare services. Reasons for the strike include: lack of progress on a draft law on bonuses and payments prepared by the union; demolition of dormitories without plans to build new ones; unreformed examination rules; non-recognition of shift rotation as working hours; denial of leave for working with radiation; delays in overtime payments; staff shortages and increasing workload; lack of legal protection for temporary workers; pressure from management; and disregard for the decisions of reconciliation bodies.
