Fire Service: 10 Fires, 33 Special Calls and 902 Thousand TL Damage in One Week
The TRNC Fire Service reported that between March 9 and 15, 10 fires and 33 separate service calls were registered in Northern Cyprus, with total material damage amounting to 902 thousand Turkish Liras (TL).
According to the report, of the 10 fires, six occurred in Nicosia (Lefkoşa), two in Kyrenia (Girne), and two in Famagusta (Gazimağusa).
The list of probable causes of ignition includes electrical short circuits, children playing and pouring fuel on a tractor trailer, an incompletely extinguished cigarette, and arson committed by an individual or a group.
Separate service calls included rescuing cats stuck on high branches, between warehouses, and on aluminum building cladding; fire prevention measures; rescuing people stuck in elevators; extracting dogs from wells and riverbeds; removing a tree that fell on a car; extricating people trapped in vehicles after traffic accidents; conducting fire safety training; transporting bodies to the hospital for forensic investigation; and rescuing a person locked inside a house.
The distribution of special calls by district: 21 cases in Nicosia; three cases each in Famagusta, Güzelyurt, and Kyrenia; and one each in Çağlayan, Geçitkale, and Iskele.
