Police Conduct Raids Across Five Districts of Northern Cyprus: Dozens Detained and Hundreds of Traffic Violations

Northern Cyprus police carried out large-scale public order inspections in five districts across the country. The raids targeted entertainment venues, bars, nightclubs, coffee shops, stores, betting offices, hotels, worker dormitories, and other crowded public spaces.

In Nicosia, 25 people were detained during the inspections:

— 23 individuals were in the country without legal residence status,

— one person was found in possession of illegal drugs and three hand-rolled cigarettes,

— another individual was detained for illegal possession of a knife.

In Famagusta, 31 people were detained for staying in the country without a residence permit.

In Kyrenia, 21 people without residence permits were detained, and legal action was taken against a bar owner who violated designated closing hours.

In Güzelyurt, 21 people were detained:

— 19 for illegal residency,

— 2 for drug possession.

In Iskele, 10 people were detained, including 9 without residence permits and one found with drugs.

Simultaneously, police conducted extensive traffic checks.

During the raids:

  • over 6,000 drivers were inspected,
  • hundreds of drivers were fined for various violations, including speeding, drunk driving, lack of insurance, and phone use while driving,
  • 126 vehicles were impounded,
  • 4 drivers were arrested.

Police stated that such inspections will continue regularly to ensure public safety and law enforcement.
