Ozlem Gyürkut: Doctors’ Salaries in TRNC Do Not Match Workload
Ozlem Gyürkut, chair of the TIP-İŞ doctors’ union, stated that the widespread perception of “high salaries” for doctors does not reflect reality. According to her, the average income of a doctor working in the public sector of the TRNC is around 140,000 Turkish lira.
Gyürkut emphasized that this amount does not represent the real working conditions of medical professionals, considering heavy schedules, numerous shifts, and the ever-increasing pressure on the healthcare system.
She also noted that doctors in Turkey earn more than their colleagues in the TRNC, which contributes to the emigration of specialists abroad.
The TIP-İŞ leader added that existing problems in the healthcare sector cannot be hidden by statistics and numbers. According to her, pressure and accusatory rhetoric will not solve the crisis, and the only way forward is dialogue and constructive negotiations between the parties.
