Northern Cyprus Commemorates Erenköy Resistance Day
On August 8, 2024, Northern Cyprus is marking the 60th anniversary of the Erenköy Resistance. The TRNC will host ceremonial events and prayers as part of the observance.
According to the Information Office, the day began at 10:00 AM with a memorial ceremony at the Erenköy Martyrs' House. Participants honored those who suffered martyrdom during the tragic events and laid flowers at the monument dedicated to the martyrs.
The ceremony included raising the flags, a moment of silence, a gun salute, and the singing of the national anthem. A special book of martyrs was also signed.
Speeches were delivered by Mustafa Arıkan, President of the Erenköy Mujahideen Association; Hamit Bakırçı, Mayor of Erenköy-Karpaz; and Ersin Tatar, President of the TRNC. The event concluded with a tour of the martyrdom sites, the laying of flowers at the graves of the martyrs, and prayers at the graves.
