Household gas becomes more expensive in Northern Cyprus: price of 10-kilogram cylinder rises by 55 lira

In Northern Cyprus, as of October 28, the official increase in the cost of household gas has come into effect. The price of a 10-kilogram gas cylinder increased by 55 Turkish lira and now stands at 555 TL. The decision to change prices was published in the “Official Gazette” and took effect immediately upon publication.

According to the decree, new maximum prices have been set for all links in the supply chain. Importers can sell gas cylinders at 301.57 TL without VAT, distribution companies at 414 TL with VAT, dealers at 524 TL, and the final retail price for consumers will be 555 TL. In addition, for the transportation of a 10-kilogram cylinder, sellers are allowed to charge an additional fee of 1.5 TL for every 10 km of delivery.

The increase is related to rising import and logistics costs, as well as overall inflation affecting the energy sector. Experts note that the gas price hike will primarily impact low-income households, especially ahead of the winter season, when the use of household cylinders significantly increases.

Authorities state that the price change is necessary to stabilize the market and ensure uninterrupted supply. However, many residents have already expressed dissatisfaction with the increase, pointing out that gas expenses are becoming unaffordable for household budgets.
