Cherries selling for up to 1000 lira per kilogram at Girne market
On Wednesday at the Girne market, stalls were traditionally filled with fruits and vegetables, but high prices once again became the main topic for shoppers.
Cherries drew particular attention, with prices reaching 800–1000 Turkish lira per kilogram.
According to buyers, many products have to be purchased in smaller quantities, or skipped entirely due to the cost. Some note that market prices are sometimes lower than in stores, yet they remain high.
Other prices at the market include:
- strawberries — around 350 TL/kg
- grapes — 300 TL/kg
- cucumbers — 150 TL/kg
- tomatoes — 140 TL/kg
- bananas — 75 TL/kg
- potatoes — 35 TL/kg
Shoppers hope that fruit and vegetable prices will decrease in the near future.
