80 Traffic Accidents Reported in Northern Cyprus Last Week: 3 Dead, 28 Injured

Last week, Northern Cyprus saw a total of 80 traffic accidents, resulting in three deaths and 28 people injured.

According to a report from the Police General Directorate, between April 21 and 27, there were two fatal accidents, 21 with injuries, and 57 that caused only property damage. The total damage from these incidents is estimated at over 5.1 million Turkish lira.

The main causes of the accidents were:

• Speeding – 26 cases

• Running stop signs or failing to yield at intersections – 18 cases

• Reckless driving – 17 cases

• Following too closely – 12 cases

• Other factors – 7 cases

The highest number of accidents occurred in Nicosia (31), followed by Kyrenia (25), Famagusta (16), Güzelyurt (5), and İskele (3).

During the same week, police checked 14,147 drivers and vehicles. They recorded 2,446 traffic violations, banned 183 vehicles from the road, and arrested eight drivers. The most frequent violations included speeding and driving without a valid license. In addition, 53 people were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
