Five Times More Palm Trees Planted on Kordonboyu Promenade in Kyrenia

The ongoing renovations of the Kordonboyu promenade in Kyrenia have resulted in a fivefold increase in the number of palm trees.

Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul shared updates on the promenade's reconstruction on his social media page: "Our citizens rightly desire more greenery as part of the Kordonboyu project, but the types of trees that can survive near the sea, where the winter climate is very harsh, are limited," wrote the mayor.

According to the mayor, "as part of the greening efforts, the number of palm trees in the area has been increased fivefold," by adding trees resilient to challenging weather conditions from other regions. In addition to traditional palm trees, trees known as "false mulberry" have been planted in certain areas of the promenade.

It is worth noting that the Kordonboyu promenade reconstruction project in Kyrenia was announced at the end of February this year.

The project's goal is to create an attractive public space between the Dome Hotel and the old harbor.

The area will feature viewing terraces accessible to people of all age groups, rest areas, parking spaces for the disabled, and new toilets.

The area will be continuously monitored by surveillance cameras and city security staff. As of late May, it was reported that the project was nearing completion.
