Man with confusing travel history detained at Metehan checkpoint
Police in Northern Cyprus detained a 40-year-old man at the Metehan land border crossing in Nicosia while he was attempting to enter the TRNC.
During document checks, immigration officers found serious discrepancies in the database. According to the records, the suspect entered the country on May 23 through Ercan Airport using a Belgian ID card, and on May 27 he officially left Ercan Airport abroad with the same document. Suspicion was raised by the fact that the person listed as having left the country attempted to cross the land border from South Cyprus two days later. Due to suspicions of document fraud and the possible transfer of the ID card to a third party, the man was arrested for further investigation.
