Two Road Accidents in Northern Cyprus: Drunk Driver in Kyrenia, Fuel Tanker Overturns on Famagusta–Karpas Highway
On March 25, 2026, two separate road incidents occurred in Northern Cyprus: one on Mustafa Çağatay Street in Kyrenia, and another on the Famagusta–Karpas highway near the Ergazi-Kurtuluş junction.
In Kyrenia, driver U.B. (male, 25), driving a passenger car with plate MM 454 while under the influence of alcohol (reported at 70 milligrams), lost control while taking a left turn and veered into the oncoming lane, colliding with vehicle TZV 036 driven by B.B. As a result, driver U.B. and passenger I.İ. (female, 18) were injured; they received first aid at Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia and were released after examination. Legal proceedings have been initiated against U.B. for driving under the influence and causing an accident.
On the Famagusta–Karpas highway, between kilometers 23 and 24, driver H.C. (male, 51), operating a fuel tanker with plate GK 417 toward Famagusta, lost control, hit the central median and a road sign. The tanker overturned on its left side, rolled twice, and eventually came to a stop on its wheels after striking a curb. No injuries were reported. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing; drivers are urged to observe speed limits and traffic rules, and to contact emergency services in case of an accident.
