A 54-year-old man in Limassol has become the victim of a social media scam, losing €30,000 in cryptocurrency to fraudsters.

According to the police press office, the Limassol Crime Investigation Department recently received a complaint from the victim. The man reported that in February 2024, he received a friend request on Facebook. The new contact persistently persuaded him to invest €30,000 in cryptocurrencies.

Eventually, the trusting individual succumbed to the persuasion and transferred the amount to an electronic wallet in four transactions.

After noticing that his investments seemed to be "profitable," he attempted to withdraw his earnings but was unsuccessful. It was only then that he realized he had been scammed and reported the incident to the police.

The Limassol Crime Investigation Department is continuing its investigation.
