Larnaca Man Loses Fingers After Firecracker Explosion
A Larnaca resident lost several fingers after a firecracker exploded in his hand. With Easter just around the corner, police are urging the public to be extremely cautious with fireworks.
According to the police, the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. in the Ayioi Anargyroi area. The victim, a 24-year-old Greek Cypriot who lives in Larnaca, was seriously injured when a firecracker detonated while he was holding it.
He was rushed to the emergency department at Larnaca General Hospital with injuries to his right hand. As a result of the blast, doctors had to amputate the upper parts of his middle, ring, and thumb fingers.
The man has since been transferred to the plastic surgery unit at Nicosia General Hospital, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery.
In light of the incident, police are calling on the public—especially parents—to remain vigilant and ensure that children do not handle fireworks unsupervised, in order to prevent further accidents during the Easter celebrations.
